In Pursuit of Curb Appeal

In Pursuit of Curb Appeal

Most people spend their time dreaming up ways to improve the insides of their home. They renovate their kitchens, install new flooring, and paint the walls in vibrant colors. As far as I am concerned, however, the outside of the home is just as vital. After working for years as a landscape architect, I'm passionate about the form and function of yards, porches, decks, gardens, and other outdoor spaces. An inviting exterior welcomes guests to my home and encourages them to enjoy themselves. I decided to create a blog that would extol the virtues of curb appeal—and maybe inspire you to take your homemaking efforts outside.

3 Reasons Why You Need To Have Gutter Covers Installed

Are you tired of your gutters getting clogged every fall? Have you been thinking about hiring someone to clean out your gutters so that you don't have to? While this is something that you can do, there is an option that is even better for most people: getting covered gutters. While you might be avoiding this option for some reason, there are a number of advantages that you might not have considered yet. A few of the biggest of these reasons are as follows:

Less work:

Even if you hire someone else to do the actual cleaning process, there are still things for you to do. You have to search for someone to do the work and then set up appointments every time cleaning is necessary. This may be multiple times per season, depending on the trees that surround your home. You could find someone who does a good job one time and then they are unavailable the next time that you need them. With gutter covers, you only need to have them inspected for faults on an annual basis or even every other year. This results in much less work needing to be done by you.

Lower cost:

When you look at the costs, it may seem cheaper to just hire someone to clean your gutters rather than to get gutter covers but this isn't entirely true. Over time, these costs will add up. A small fee here, an extra fee there, and soon you've paid more to have your gutter cleaned than it would have cost to just get the covers in the first place. Meanwhile, if you had gotten your gutters covered, they would still be covered and you would be paying nothing more until they needed replacing due to storm or other damage.

Fewer repairs:

Clogged gutters are more than a simple nuisance. If you don't have your gutters cleaned out or you aren't able to do so before winter hits, you run the risk of water pooling in your gutters. As this water freezes and expands, it can damage your gutters so that they no longer work as intended. There is also the possibility of water backing up onto your roof as a result of the clog. As the water goes under your shingles, it can cause the subroof to start to rot so that it needs to be replaced. Having gutter covers installed will all but eliminate these potential issues so that you needn't worry about dealing with them in the foreseeable future.
