In Pursuit of Curb Appeal

About Me

In Pursuit of Curb Appeal

Most people spend their time dreaming up ways to improve the insides of their home. They renovate their kitchens, install new flooring, and paint the walls in vibrant colors. As far as I am concerned, however, the outside of the home is just as vital. After working for years as a landscape architect, I'm passionate about the form and function of yards, porches, decks, gardens, and other outdoor spaces. An inviting exterior welcomes guests to my home and encourages them to enjoy themselves. I decided to create a blog that would extol the virtues of curb appeal—and maybe inspire you to take your homemaking efforts outside.

3 Ideas For Making Hardwood Flooring The Focal Point In Your Home

Hardwood flooring can look beautiful when installed properly and in a home that has other features that look great with hardwood. If you decide to get hardwood flooring installed in your home and are interested in making it the main focal point, you need to take into account the best ways to do so. By knowing what changes you can make in your home to get hardwood flooring looking its best and the main interest when coming indoors, you can feel confident that this investment was worth the money and that you'll be able to enjoy the hardwood for many years to come.

Pick Up Any Large Area Rugs

While laying down rugs in your home can come with a variety of benefits, from adding extra insulation to simply being attractive, it can also take away from the impact of hardwood flooring. While you can still have some rugs laying down in your home, it's a good idea to stick with smaller rugs that won't cover the flooring too much. This will allow you to appreciate the color and look of your hardwood flooring as much as possible.

Take Care of Routine Waxing and Polishing

Another way that you can keep your hardwood flooring looking its best year after year is putting more time into maintenance over the regular sweeping and mopping. By investing time into waxing and polishing the hardwood flooring regularly, you can make sure that it sparkles and is a real attention grabber in your home. Putting together a small cleaning kit that includes waxing and polishing supplies can help ensure that you're able to get the look you want for your hardwood floors.

Avoid Wood Furniture That Can Clash

In order for the hardwood flooring to stand out as soon as you come indoors, you will need to make sure that your furniture doesn't take away from the flooring. The impact of your hardwood flooring will likely be a lot less if you have a lot of other wood pieces of furniture. Sticking with materials that are similar to the hardwood flooring can also help with making the flooring stand out in a way that flatters the home.
