In Pursuit of Curb Appeal

About Me

In Pursuit of Curb Appeal

Most people spend their time dreaming up ways to improve the insides of their home. They renovate their kitchens, install new flooring, and paint the walls in vibrant colors. As far as I am concerned, however, the outside of the home is just as vital. After working for years as a landscape architect, I'm passionate about the form and function of yards, porches, decks, gardens, and other outdoor spaces. An inviting exterior welcomes guests to my home and encourages them to enjoy themselves. I decided to create a blog that would extol the virtues of curb appeal—and maybe inspire you to take your homemaking efforts outside.

New In Ground Swimming Pool Owner? Most Common Types Of Problems To Expect

When the summer heats up, there is nothing better than floating about in the cool and refreshing water of your in ground swimming pool. Not only does a pool offer relief from extreme summer heat, but it is also a great source of fun: all of those pool parties, diving water sports and so much more. Your in ground pool is one of the focal points of your summer; however, like all things, it experiences wear and tear, and that wear and tear will require repairs.

If your swimming pool is relatively new and it hasn't yet been subjected to wear and tear, here's a look at some of the most common types of issues that you may have to have repaired in the future.

Cracks in the Walls and Floor

If your in ground swimming pool is made of concrete, cracks in the walls and floor may develop over time. These cracks are the result of temperature changes and usually happen when the pool has been drained for the winter.

If you do experience cracks in your pool, resurfacing it can easily repair the problem.

Filter Woes

The filter is one of the most integral parts of a swimming pool. It cleans the water by filtering out impurities, thus keeping the water clear and free from bacteria.

One of the most important parts of maintaining a pool is cleaning out the filter on a regular basis; generally once a week. Over time, the impurities that the filter cleans out will clog it, hence the reason why changing it is needed. However, if you don't change it regularly, the filter may need to have the cartridge replaced or it may require a deep cleaning from a professional.

Pump Problems

The pump is essentially the heart of a pool, as it circulates, filters and heats the water, and there are a lot of moving components that keep the pump working. Being that there are so many moving parts, it is not unusual for a pump to experience issues. If your pump does experience issues, a professional can assess the problem and properly repair it.

Lighting Issues

Thanks to the lights in your in ground swimming pool, you can enjoy nighttime swimming. However, when those bulbs go out, swimming at night can go from fun to creepy.

If the bulbs in your in ground pool go out, simply replacing them may rectify the problem; however, if this doesn't restore the light, the problem may be deeper and could be associated with the electrical components of your pool's lights.

Being aware of the most common types of problems your in ground pool may experience will allow you to have it properly repaired; and with proper in ground pool repair, you can prolong the life of your pool and enjoy using it for a long time.
